Afternoon Everybody
How are things with you?
It does seem like ages ago since we last spoke…so catching up…
Last week I featured some new artists for you to check out and then Friday I ventured out into the Surrey sticks (aka the countryside) for my own spotlight. Eventually finding my way around Surrey University’s campus, Andy Vale presented his ‘Perfumed Garden Gnome Show’ of Ladies, Ladies, Ladies, hmmmm-hmmmm! Guests included Susie Clarke, Gemma Bowles and yours truly, LT. I was probably on air for an hour chatting and performing some new songs, ‘Take A Back Seat, Andy!’ and also covered James Brown’s ‘This Is A Man’s Man’s World’. So hear me belt out, get stage fright and be cheeky with plenty of raucous laughs and giggles right here http://www.gu2.co.uk/index.php/on-air/listen-back (only available until tomorrow 15 August , 18:59 GMT)! The interview runs from 7-10pm and so you need to download each hour. To help you out I’m in the end part of 8pm and beginning of 9pm sessions. After Andy’s show I popped down to see Miles Winter-Roberts (http://www.mileswinterroberts.com) and he was phenomenal as always. The rest of my weekend was filled with a private function, a wedding down South. Actually it was the funniest gig I’ve ever done so far because they had a decibel limiter…so when belting out songs whether me or the band, the power for the sound system would cut out and all you’d hear was the drums and crowd singing – hilarious but eventually I timed it so it looked like it was part of the show!!! Anyway, Sunday was my usual stint at the 15 Minute Club (http://www.myspace.com/15minuteclub) and our jam session got 3 encores, so we played on and on and on!
Monday, was a day out with the band, where I dragged the boys out into Surrey Hills, with heels and all! We spent the day talking about our future. You see since performing at GuilFest 2008, I’ve been going through changes, making my mind up about how I go forward and what I’ll be doing next. So Monday was all about that. It takes so much believing in what you do and then actually having the right people who want to work with you and that believe in you too. And finally, these are my guys and I’m their little lady! More about the band and Santa’s Little Helper in weeks to come 🙂 But I have to tell you about the highlight of my Monday. We mosied onto The Bedford in South London, where we saw Miles Winter-Roberts play and then I did a spot performance of my new single ‘Gonna Make This Right’. Not quite finished, I drove us through the scenic route of London to Piccadilly Circus where Peter Lemarr and Patrick Alan were performing at The Pigalle Club. Just in time to see Mr Lemarr give it some and then the house band play on where Patrick Alan invites singers onto the stage too (and trust me not just anyone gets invited). As I’d done my virgin debut a couple of weeks ago and proved my worth, Patrick invited me back up where I sang ‘You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman’ with some of the best musicians – these guys have played with people I get star-struck just talking about! Anyway, Aretha Franklin I hope I made you proud, baby! My favourite part was when Patrick and I ended the song in an answer and question form – he’s brilliant, so it’s an honour sharing his stage and singing with him.
So the rest of the week has been preparation and my lovelies, I know I’m being pretty secretive-ish about what’s in store, but the clues are all in my latest emails and saved in my blogs (http://blog.myspace.com/lisatheunissen)…for now just catch me and the guys perform over the next few weeks whilst we unravel our magic carpet ride…
