Hello World!
Howzit going?
It’s been over 5 months into 2012 and the set up in the Gulf has been every bit of fantastic :>
Since joining the The Fridge Dubai, their brilliant team have packed my schedule with shows and opportunities as a freelance Singer-Songwriter. Each gig is different; it is constantly exciting working for new clients and most importantly there is room to showcase and work on my own songs too. The Gulf News have also placed two little features in their Friday Magazine and Tabloid!
Every time I travel to a new place, I start all over again. Working freelance in a new country is even more of a challenge than landing in a new country where you already have a contract, visa, band and home. The one thing I know is that no matter where I go opportunities exist, and if I just try to find out what they are – then that is a starting point to find out what the next step is. Just climb the ladder to reach the top :>
The Fridge Dubai music agency have given my music life a secure lift up – they are experienced and professional in helping musicians in the Gulf further their careers. The owner, Shelley Frost, is a concept thinker who follows through with each and every last detail, as well as that is an exceptional electric harpist and songwriter, plus is South African! Besides the work rolling in, I actively seek out what is happening in the music market to find out what shows I would like to be in, and then suggest these. It is an immense amount of work becoming known in a new region, but the live music scene is booming here so it is very worthwhile, especially when looking at other markets where no work is available. As a musician, you always need to push your career ahead more than anyone managing you – and if they do it with the same passion – then you know you are in the right hands – and The Fridge make it happen. Big shout out to Shelley, Dean, Helen, Sherin, Chris, Anne, Mike, Toma, Lotis, Raymond, as well as the Jumeirah family and clients – thank you so much so far, I am so grateful. The Fridge have also formed a band around what I do musically, and the musicians are such fun and hard-working with all my creative craziness – I just just love the magic and space, it’s endless and I get gooses when we rehearse and perform! To the zillions of hours that you wonderful artists put in – Stoyan, Peter, Kevin, Gary, Shay, Jerry, Eric, Serik – you are The Makers! We work together towards one goal – fantastic music that sets fire to the dancefloor (and the rain!) with all the dancing, singing and happy energy! To my nearest and dearest – thank you for your consistent belief and support.
So now? C’mon…let’s rock it some more :>
Now there are not very many ‘open to the public’ performances I do at the moment, but you can find us every Friday from 12:00-16:00 at Mina A Salam for Brunch, at Madinat Jumeirah Hotel in Dubai. It’s a breath-taking venue being voted as Dubai’s Best Brunch by TimeOut, and ensure you make a reservation well in advance.
Saying that though, this Friday 11th May my band will be performing an upbeat playlist of my original songs and cover hit songs from the charts at The Fridge’s Season Finale. The evening starts around 17:00 at Wafi Rooftop Gardens in Dubai and we’ll hit the stage round 21:00-ish. Would be wonderful if you can make it. It’s the first time I’ll be singing my own songs since 2009, so I am thrilled, nervous, shaking in my boots and simply cannot wait. For those that are no where near the Middle East – especially my family in South Africa – I promise to send photo’s and videos of the event :>
Loads more news in next few months, so in the meantime come watch the shows and stay tuned.
Keep rocking, trying and smiling :>
Love, light and happiness
Miss T
