Dearest Fans
Happy Easter everyone!
Following a brilliant weekend of performing at Meydan’s Dubai World Cup horse-racing event, I feel elevated to be part of Dubai’s calendar highlight. We played in the Sky Bubble where all the VIPs sip on bubbly, by the end of the night everyone was up and dancing with the fireworks as a backdrop. Pretty incredible!
Regarding my recent blog, I’ve had mixed reviews when I sadly had news of a certain agency not paying musicians during, after or at all for about 30 acts’ performance contracts in foreign countries; some responses of agents I’ve worked with saying hey we c’mon we’ve had a good professional relationship name the bad guys, some fans in awe that actually I have the courage to speak out without slandering anyone and some musicians crying out just name these sharks. I CAN ONLY FOCUS ON THE POSTIVE! Therefore, can only praise who to work with :> The best music management, agencies and hotels I’ve worked with are: Teatro Pereyra (Eric-Jan Harmsen), Psycho Management (Patrick Haveron), Stuart Robb, The Fridge Dubai (Shelley Frost), Music For London & Asia (Titus Raj), Entertainment Associates (Maurice Fresco), el-live Productions (Georges Elchakieh), The Kashmir Klub & The Bedford (Tony Moore), G-Hotel, Jumeirah Group, Hyatt Group and Ritz Carlton plus about 100 venues and their promoters across the UK. All are fundamental in my growth and protection as an artist. Each experience was different, all had good and bad moments but the final outcome was that there was so much to learn from each journey in order to step up and move forward to the next one. Everyone has their own experience whom they work with and my shout out was simply to say agencies who steal from musicians need to be stopped and for those that love music, keep rocking, by keep supporting us! A musician needs to know that anyone you trust to run your business needs to be researched; you have to look after who looks after you. Thank you for all being part of my journey…I’m loving it and no where near finished!
So moving on…as an unsigned artist, with one DIY album under my belt, performance is the financial support for my songwriting projects. Without performing in covers bands and some paid songwriting gigs, I would not be able to pay for studio time to produce my next album. Hardly any new, unsigned artists are developed nowadays; labels do not pay for their albums to be produced. I am responsible for creating a product to shop to labels for consideration, and even then nothing is guaranteed. This is why I am heavily focussing on performance right now, to fund the production of my next album. I don’t intend on releasing it, but will create a sexy, sellable product of catchy songs for listeners to fall in love with #greathope. When performing an hour of originals a week ago at SIKKA 2013 and receiving wonderful audience feedback, it reinforced that I have to do this and now! Finally I am in one place not travelling and have found a super producer to work with. Finally I have more time on my hands, and all my focus is working at putting my second album together. It’s very exciting! And nothing goes without thanks; The Fridge are the agency responsible for setting my line-up of gigs so I can do this, thank you to everyone involved. Also thanks to Salha for putting me forward for lotsa ventures that have converted into gigs, very grateful!
For the next four months I have upped my performance schedule to fuel my songwriting engine, the finishing line should be in June. And then another part of the project begins…for now the upcoming gigs are in Dubai and Abu Dhabi…
“Live each day as if it were your last”.
Love
