Hi there
Hope you’re having a lovely weekend so far, I see the sun has just come out to play…
Supporting Never The Bride Was Like…
Well, Thursday’s gig was everything and more. My band kicked off the night with ‘I Just Wanna Make Love To You’ leading into ‘Take A Back Seat, Boy!’, which was great fun as I got to be front stage and off the piano interacting with the crowd. We then played ‘Sweep Me Off My Feet’, ‘Times’, ‘Tell Me How To Love’ and ‘HerStory’ with me on a grand piano (oh wow, the ivories on that baby are so delischh). At the moment the band are rehearsing and writing new material, so we played two of the songs off the new album. One of the songs is a love-song I wrote for my friends who recently got married, so did this one with just keys, voice and a wonderful, intimate audience. To finish off our set we played the single that we’ll be releasing (very soon) and it made me so proud to play with my guys – they really are fab and make all the difference – I even jumped off the keys, kicked off my high heels to join them at the front of the stage out of pure excitement!
Once our work was complete as support act, Never the Bride took the stage. Everytime I see them, it’s the most captivating performance. The highlight for me was when Nikki and Been played ‘You Can’t Make Me Love You’, written by Mike Reid and Allen Shamblin, besides the ‘Living Tree’ which I love, love, love. “Dear God, when I grow up and become a superstar, please let me be as grand as Nikki and Been, rolled into one.” From raunchy to delicate, ah man, they rock!!!
What Are The Band Up To?
Next week, I will be doing some radio work…Weds catch me back on Keith Woodhouse’s show on Delta Radio reviewing unsigned talent on the music circuit and then next Friday joining MR Andy Vale on GU2 Radio for a three-hour session focussing on chicks vamping up the music-world, time for you boys to ‘Take A Back Seat’, aha, oh yeah! So tune in and shake your pom-poms 🙂 And just heard MR Vale’s show from last night where he played my cheeky song ‘Take A Back Seat, Boy!’, hahaha, have a listen he is going to be the next BIG DJ: Click on ‘Friday 7 PM Andy Vale’s Perfumed Garden Gnome Show’ and ‘Friday 8 PM Andy Vale’s Perfumed Garden Gnome Show’ at www.gu2.co.uk/index.php/on-air/listen-back.
Gig-wise…well we’re in the studio writing and rehearsing, but do check out Gomstock 2008, Hobbles on the Cobbles Aftershow Party, The Pigalle Club (Monday night’s appearance seemed to pay off, feeling blessed and slightly light-headed just thinking about it), WeyFest 2008 and then we maybe coming a little closer to your home-town soon…hmmmm?!
Featured Artists
Whilst featuring other bands on Delta Radio (of course I’ll do a write up with links and news next week for you to check them out), I’m starting a little early…Ladies and Gentleman let me introduce you to…
Rietta Austin: http://www.riettaaustin.com
With a four-octave range, Rietta’s vocal versatility is outstanding. Originally from Australia, she is versed in anything from Jazz, Soul and RnB, to Pop and Rock. Regularly featured at the Harrah’s Casinos worldwide, seen at Ronnie Scott’s and Dover Street Wine Bar in London. Oh and with appearances on the same bill as Bryan Adams, recording backing vocals and performing live at Glastonbury Festival for Dame Shirley Bassey and then topping it off by performing support act for Joe Cocker in July in Moscow. Likened to Anastacia (although I think she tops even that), this singer-songwriter gets a standing ovation everytime.
On Monday evening, 4th August you can see her and the band play at The Bull’s Head in Barnes and her special guest is Stevie Vann Lange (the voice behind the famous “Limara” TV ad in 1985, and is the vocal coach for acts like “Blue”, “Sugarbabes”, “Robbie Williams” and many more – check it out on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bVuq0C8oqk). Doors open 8.30pm. £10 to get in, £8 if you mention Facebook Offer.
